Injuries have played a big part in deciding on our favorite waiver wire targets for Week 4 of the fantasy football season. Opportunities have been created for players who are likely not on a roster in your league.
There are other instances where it’s a simple case of a high snap count and some favorable matchups in the weeks to come. With three weeks in the books, nailing a waiver claim at this time of year can be pivotal in the race for fantasy football supremacy.
Trey Benson
James Conner won’t play again this season after enduring a season-ending foot injury in Week 3. Having led the team in rushing for the last five years, Conner’s workload had already shifted towards Trey Benson, who led the Cardinals in yards over the first two weeks of the season.
Arizona’s offense has been stagnant at times. Losing Conner won’t help. It’s a big ask for Benson to take on such a major workload, having been in and out of the offense as a rookie in 2024, but it’s the only short-term option.
The Seahawks, Titans, and Colts are the Cardinals’ next three opponents. It’s worth taking a flyer on Benson for this stretch to see how he fares.
Cam Skattebo
Tyrone Tracy’s shoulder injury saw Cam Skattebo become the Giants’ first choice running back this weekend. Along with 10 backfield carries, the rookie also led the Giants in targets, receptions, and yards.
It sounds like Tracy has a dislocated shoulder. Skattebo’s workload was already due to increase in Week 3, but he could be one of the highest usage backs in the NFL if Tracy is sidelined for a prolonged period.
The 0-3 Giants have a tough matchup against a stingy Chargers run defense, but Week 5 is much more favorable when they face the Saints. With 21 carries and 13 targets over the last two weeks, Skattebo could easily score 20+ fantasy points this weekend.
Jalen Tolbert
CeeDee Lamb is sidelined for at least a couple of weeks. Jalen Tolbert played over 90% of Dallas’ offensive snaps after Lamb exited in Week 3, indicating he will have a sizable role in the offense in the next couple of games.
Even more importantly, Tolbert scored seven touchdowns and had three games with more than 80 yards in 2024. He’s not the biggest name, but he could put up some eye-catching numbers over the next couple of weeks.
Tua Tagovailoa
Yes, we are somehow back at the point where Tua Tagovailoa is a viable fantasy option. It seems like a big stretch after the Week 1 calamity, but a favorable matchup with a so-so Jets defense presents an opportunity for the Dolphins’ quarterback.
Across the first three weeks of the season, the Jets have been below-average in fantasy points conceded to opposing quarterbacks. Tagovailoa has thrown four touchdowns and two interceptions over the last two games and had a 315-yard performance in Week 2.
He’s a better Week 4 option than most if you’ve been streaming quarterbacks.
