Panthers kick the game winner against Cowboys (27-30)
Brian Schottenheimer won’t be the first head coach fired now that Callahan got the boot from the Titans, but after a season-low loss to the Panthers, he’s undoubtedly on a short leash. Former Cowboys RB Rico Dowdle gashed Dallas for 183 rushing yards while Bryce Young threw 3 touchdowns. Dave Canales has this offense running smooth, and Dallas is already in dire straits less than half the season in.
Bears secure their second 25-24 win of the season (25-24)
For the second time this year, the Bears win 25-24 with a kick at the buzzer deciding the game (though they nailed a kick rather than blocking one this time). Jayden Daniels looked solid in his second game back from injury, though a bad red-zone interception didn’t help the Commanders’ chances. Caleb Williams looked great, and Ben Johnson seems to have found a groove as the Bears head coach 5 games in.
Herbert gets heroic in Miami (27-29)
The Chargers let it come down to the wire, giving up a touchdown pass with just 46 seconds remaining to fall behind by one. But Justin Herbert reminded everyone why Jim Harbaugh is so enamored with him. Escaping a near sack, he found Ladd McConkey crossing the field and hit him in stride for a huge run-after-catch gain. Kicking stud Cameron Dicker then nailed a 33-yarder with five seconds left, sealing the comeback win. The Chargers improved to 4-2, while the spiraling Dolphins dropped to 1-5.
Top Player Performances
Bijan Robinson, RB, Falcons
The former top-10 pick had a huge day as the Falcons upset the Bills 24–14. Robinson piled up 170 rushing yards and a touchdown, along with six receptions for 68 yards. Atlanta’s reliance on Bijan allowed them to control the clock and field position, propelling them to victory.
Rico Dowdle, RB, Panthers
Back-to-back big weeks for Rico Dowdle, who followed up a 206-yard performance against Miami with 183 more against Dallas. The former Cowboy seems to have found a home in Carolina, where head coach Dave Canales has unlocked the undrafted running back’s full potential.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Seahawks
JSN totaled 162 receiving yards and a touchdown in a low-scoring 20–12 win over Jacksonville. His impact came through chunk plays, averaging just over 20 yards per catch and repeatedly stretching the Jaguars’ defense to keep them off balance and pinned in poor field position.
Miami Dolphins close to complete disaster
We covered the Dolphins in this space after the Tyreek Hill injury, and things have only unraveled further since. Now sitting at 1–5, Miami has become a storm of finger-pointing and frustration.
Tua Tagovailoa has publicly questioned the team’s leadership, while Mike McDaniel dismissed those comments as “misguided.” Former Dolphins receiver DaeSean Hamilton piled on, suggesting Tua lacks the very leadership he’s calling out. The wheels are coming off fast, and it feels less like a question of if McDaniel is gone than when.
Betting Strategy Adjustments After Week 5
Bet against the Jets while Fields is under center
Justin Fields remains one of the league’s most polarizing quarterbacks. Some still see a dynamic dual-threat who has never had the right supporting cast. Most see what he has shown, an elite athlete with an inconsistent arm and slow processing. The Jets continue to regress with each passing week, and as long as Fields is leading the offense, betting the other side remains the smart play.
Buccaneers over Lions in Week 7
The Lions have been mostly solid, but their missteps tend to get magnified. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay looks like the team to beat right now. Detroit enters as the -240 favorite, yet these two teams have played strikingly similar football. Expect a tight, high-scoring game, the type that Baker Mayfield has thrived in all season. Ride the hot hand and take the Buccaneers.
Avoid Dolphins versus Browns altogether
Miami against Cleveland has all the makings of an ugly watch. Both teams are floundering at 1-5, both are questioning their rosters, and neither team’s top talent has come close to expectations. There is no clear edge here, only uncertainty. Save your money for a game that offers a clearer read.
